Chores and More

January 16th, 2008

A good week for working outside, but it’s going to be really cold again this weekend! After the torrential rainstorm last week the driveway needed to be smoothed out again. Our driveway is about 1/4 mile of gravel, with a dip in the middle that is prone to washing out in heavy rain. Through trial and error, I’ve found that using a landscape rake 3-4 times a year can really help the driveway stay in shape, without requiring us to purchase more gravel. But we’re slowly running out of gravel to rake! This year we may finally get some more.

Half-way down the driveway I like to check how it looks, and try to keep the rocks out of the grass! People probably do this job with a variety of tools, but a tractor with 4-wheel drive and “position control” for moving the rake up and down at different levels is very helpful.

Lately the pond has been freezing at night, and thawing during the day as temperatures rise.
