Moments in Time

January 22nd, 2008

Just a touch of  snow fell overnight, sprinkling the landscape in white.  The kids wish it would really snow so they can play.   I wouldn’t mind a little more snow at times- we’ve only had one such “snow day” this year, and usually have 4 or 5 good snowstorms.  Lots of turmoil around the world right now.  I can’t help but wonder if some of these trees could talk, what might they say?  Strange question perhaps, but to think that some of these trees are 100 to 200 years old, they have stood in the face of many storms.

Other trees such as the Giant Sequoia, have stood for perhaps thousands of years.  Here’s a picture from 2003 with the young boy standing between two enormous trees.  Think of the contrast in ages… and the contrasts in time.

Giant Sequoias and a contrast in age - 3 years old versus thousands of years

It almost dwarfs the imagination, but for me it provides perspective.  Amidst the challenges and concern of the present, I try to take the long view.  This, like others before, is simply a season and a moment in time.
