Playing Tag in the Woods

August 6th, 2008

We’re still on the road and seeing the marvels of this great nation first hand.  I don’t have time to write much, but will leave you with this picture of the yellow lab and a curious friend one evening.   See you soon!

Yellow Lab and the Deer

  1. Your dog has a lot of restraint. My dog would have been three miles aways still chasing the deer by the time I found my camera.

    Wishing you safe travels.

What a great picture! Don’t know which one looks more surprised. Perhaps he’s just cautious. A continued safe journey.

  3. Wow.

I second Ed’s remark. How either the dog or the deer stayed put long enough for the photo is not clear to me.

    Have fun and be safe.

  4. The lab is well trained to stay around, and come when called. But honestly he’s not a “chaser” but will look to me before taking off after anything. This was really neat though- the deer stood there for about 5 minutes while the lab crept up slowly. The lab jumped a little back and forth, “huffing” a few times as if to ask what this animal was all about. Then the little buck scraped the ground with a hoof and put his head down- and then chased the lab all around the campsite! They stopped and the lab tried to get closer again, almost playing like he does with our other dogs. The deer didn’t run away, but actually chased him a couple more times as if to say it was his territory. The deer never got that close to him as the lab stayed out of range and dodged back and forth, but the dog didn’t try to get too close either. Eventually the deer walked off and I called the lab back.
