Moonlit Dreams

December 3rd, 2008

How often do we really see the moon?  Pieces of it, here and there throughout the year.  Maybe the occasional full moon night, with the landscape painted in shadows?  Magical… at least when I remember to stop and savor such moments.  Tonight was more subtle, with the moonlight reflected off the water of the pond.  But it caught me, and there’s something about it, with the wind blowing and the shimmer of light on the water- my thoughts drift far away.  I can almost imagine a warm moonlit beach…

…and then I come to my senses- I’m freezing and it’s 24 degrees out here!

  1. Hey, Beau… why haven’t I been visiting your blog? I dunno!

The moon certainly is beautiful. I’m going out to stoke the pit for the smokehouse now. Such a joy to be outside in the light of the moon on a still crisp night.

I love your blog. I’m linking to you. And sorry I didn’t visit sooner, I didn’t know what I was missing. :)

The moon’s been great lately with Venus and Jupiter in the mix. I tried to get my kids outside with binocs to check it out a couple of nights ago. No luck.

(BTW, your comment on Education and Family structure is spot-on, in my view.)

  3. Hi Ron! Welcome, and thanks for your comments. Not nearly as engaging as yours- I can learn things at your place, and I’m still trying to figure out where to build a smokehouse like you did! :)

Hi R.- Oh, I should try to do that with the planets… I think we missed it. We have a little telescope that’s almost more trouble than it’s worth, but if you get it set up just right you can see the craters on the moon and ridges that look like far away mountains. Well I guess they are… The boy is amazed by it though. I forgot all about doing that!
